When we employ the Konmari Method™, we tidy by category rather than by location, beginning with Clothes, then Books, then Papers, then “Komono” (Miscellaneous items), and saving Sentimental items for the end.

For many people, it can be effective to break these 5 categories up into sub-categories (and perhaps even into sub-sub-categories) so that you can feel confident about what you are completing.  There are many “Konmari™ Checklists” available online that seek to have a check mark for every single type of item you can possibly find in your household — I find these give me a bit of a headache, so I’ve made my own that are simple to use, and that break into sub-categories without getting too detailed.

These checklists are a free resource, my gift to you!

KonMari Method™ Checklist

This checklist is great for an individual to print and start the process.  I recommend working with an Official Konmari Consultant or first reading Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up before beginning, as the list will not be very effective without knowing the process.

KonMari Method™ Checklist for Kids

This is the first checklist I created, as a way of helping my niece Katie through the Konmari Method™.  Kids items really shouldn’t go on an adult’s checklist, because if they are older than 3 they should be actively involved in the tidying process.  That said, there are many things kids possess that are in unique categories you won’t find for adults, so I’ve tried to assemble them together.

Digital KonMari Method™ Checklist

Digital items is a WHOLE category and set of sub-categories of it’s own.  I recommend completing the Konmari Method™ using my original Konmari Checklist, before moving on to digital.

As it is broken up in the same order, you can also print this off and use it alongside each category as you complete the proper order – for example: going through all your physical papers, then hopping on your computer to deal with your digital files.
